How to do this

KIWANIS HOUSE reflects the major emphasis of Kiwanis
- "YOUNG CHILDREN PRIORITY ONE.

The main objectives of Kiwanis House is to provide young women and their children a "hand-up" towards independence by providing safe, attractive, affordable housing, where the mothers would have an opportunity to gain life and employment skills and foster a sense of self-worth, self-confidence and self-reliance.

To this end, the Kiwanis Club of Victoria purchased a three storey, wood frame residence in the City of Victoria. Renovations and an addition to the house were undertaken and resulted in 8 self-contained suites for single parent families.

Kiwanis House is operated by the YMCA in Victoria. The house offers programs that include life skill training, parenting, child development, homemaking, socializing and work skills. It is hoped that after approximately a year of residency, the parent will be able to move on to second stage housing and also into the workforce. It is through working with the parent that we hope the child’s life will be positively influenced. This ‘early start’ program will be a positive influence on the whole family.
